Your days are packed. Your time is in demand. Your calendar is full. The end of the day comes around, and you wonder where the day actually went. Sound familiar?
When it comes to blood sugar control, hands down exercise is the best. Exercise is like invisible insulin. It lowers your blood sugar within minutes and sometimes for even 24 hours after you workout. If that doesn’t motivate you then here are three more reasons to get moving today:
#1: Exercise provides mental clarity. Exercise releases endorphins which are the “feel good” chemicals in your brain. They makes us feel happy and relaxed. When you exercise, you’ll feel energized and motivated to get more accomplished in the day. Exercise also fights the stress hormone cortisol, has been proven to curb symptoms of depression, and alleviates anxiety. Let exercise be your stress reliever, not food! Remember stress increases your blood sugar so it’s important to include physical activity in your daily lifestyle.
#2: Exercise is a form of meditation. Exercise can make you feel more optimistic and calm. When you exercise, you focus on being present in the moment, and that becomes a form of meditation. Yoga is also an excellent form of exercise and meditation. Try yoga: It reduces stress and improves strength, flexibility, coordination, circulation, and posture.
#3: Exercise can help you sleep. Regular physical activity can help you fall asleep faster and deepen your sleep. According to a report from Harvard University, one in five Americans sleep fewer than six hours a night. A lack of adequate sleep can have serious health consequences. Sleep deprivation increases the risk for a number of chronic health problems, including obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. Sleep is essential to relax your muscles and repair your body.
Feeling motivated? You should be! Get out there and get moving! Write down 3 things that keep you motivated. Post it on your wall, refrigerator, desk at work or on your bathroom mirror. Look at it everyday. Say them out loud. Your fitness it 100% mental! Your body won’t go where your mind doesn’t push it!
