Benefits of Green Tea for Weight Loss

I’m a green tea drinker. I like the taste – but I didn’t always love it. I drink it because I know it’s good for me and, to be honest, I feel like it helps keep my weight in check.

Green tea has long been known for it’s antioxidant properties and has been used as a medicine for thousands of years. Green tea’s processing avoids the fermentation process which makes it richer in antioxidants. It is also known to help with fat loss, lowering your risk of cancer and many other health benefits.

Hands down, green tea is one of the healthiest beverages on the planet!

Now and days, there are so many different flavor profiles of this beverage.  So if you think you don’t like the taste of green tea, or tea in general, try a variety of flavors before you pass.

These are 5 validated reasons why green tea rocks:

Green Tea May Help with Healing Your Type 2 Diabetes

Type 2 Diabetes, if left untreated, can be lethal. We need to do everything we can to help heal our bodies from the inside out.

Having high blood sugar stresses out the body and causes unnecessary inflammation. Type 2 diabetes means your body is insulin resistant or it may mean you are not producing enough insulin.

Some controlled studies have shown that green tea has an impact on improving insulin sensitivity; thus, helping your body utilize your blood sugar more efficiently. It helps slow down the rise of blood sugar after eating; ultimately, reducing your risk of developing type 2 diabetes in the long term.

Antioxidants in Green Tea May Lower Your Risk of Cardiovascular Disease

Cardiovascular disease, including heart disease and stroke, are known as the leading causes of death in the world. Not to mention, the leading causes of death for anyone with type 2 diabetes.

Green tea has been shown to dramatically increase the antioxidant power of the blood, which protects the LDL (bad) cholesterol particles from oxidation, which is one part of the puzzle towards heart disease.

Green Tea Can Help You Lose Weight and Lower Your Risk of Obesity

Green tea contains caffeine which is a natural stimulant to your metabolism. Given that green tea can boost your metabolic rate short term, it makes sense that it can help you lose weight.

Green tea apparently can intensify levels of fat oxidation and the rate at which your body burns calories.

Now don’t go thinking that green tea will burn all your calories so you can eat whatever you want. It’s not that magical! But one to three cups per day couldn’t hurt.

Green Tea Can Kill Bacteria, Which Lowers Your Risk of Infection

Catechins are powerful antioxidants and are prominent in green tea. Tea catechins are strong antibacterial and antiviral agents which make them great for fighting off viruses, potentially lowering your risk of infections.

Multiple studies also show that green tea can lead to improvements in dental health and help kill bad breath, which is caused from a build up of bacteria. Your dentist and your significant other may thank you for it.

Green Tea Increases Fat Burning and Decreases Inflammation

It has been said that that the catechin compounds in green tea can have various protective effects on inflammation while knocking down fat particles along the way.

Have you ever looked on the ingredient list for any fat burning supplement? Chances are it has green tea in there. This is because green tea has been shown to increase fat metabolism, ultimately helping your body heal from the inside out.

    1. It does not make a difference, BUT the technique does. For example, if you make hot green tea and the water is TOO hot it can burn the tea leaves and decrease the amount of antioxidants. Read my post HERE to learn more about how to make hot vs iced tea at home 🙂
