Natural Nutrition

Ever hear that saying “you are what you eat.” ??? What that means is your health and energy levels primarily depend on the nutrients you feed your body. What you eat is closely connected to the amount of sugar in your blood. The right food choices will help you control your blood sugar and energy levels.

Natural nutrition and alternative medicine, also known as holistic nutrition, is the concept that food is medicine. We can heal our bodies and keep them strong with nutrients from foods. Food and supplements play an integral part in healing the mind, body and spirit to promote optimal health.

When it comes to diabetes and nutrition we need to plan well and shop fresh. No grocery shopping lists are the same, but we should ALL strive to make the best choices for ourselves and our families, right?! There is so much nutrition information out there it’s hard to know what’s right and what’s wrong. Are you supposed to look for low sodium or low carb? Low saturated fat or fat-free? White or wheat? Red or green? Sometimes the sheer number of food choices and mind-boggling marketing tactics can seem overwhelming at the grocery store.

Developing a Plan
It’s important to look at your body as a whole instead of focusing on the disease alone. As you learn how to heal your body, mind and soul it will be important to frequently assess your lifestyle and evaluate your medications, including those sold over the counter as well as supplements. Learning to have a healthy relationship with food and understanding stress management is also apart of the healing process. Reading labels is a great way to become familiar with what you’re putting in your body. Read more about food labels HERE!
